Unable to update Adobe Reader 8 on windows 7 error 1402 could Not Open Key
i have windows 7 on my system and I have installed the Adobe Reader 8. My system works very smoothly and i don’t have any issue. Yesterday I downloaded the latest update for Adobe Reader and tried to install but i got error during the installation “ERROR 1402 Could Not Open Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS”. I have tried to solve this issue through Adobe Reader website and they suggested me to uninstall the current version and then reinstall the new version and update so that you can solve your problem. i gone through their steps but i am still getting the same error, so i am actually don’t know what to do. Please can anyone suggest me?

I would like suggest you run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe). So that you can solve your problem, Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe) is help in the problem of installation, upgradation etc. it will solve the all error during the updation. To run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe) follow this steps: first click on the start button on desktop and then click on the search box and then type the programs and features and then enter ok. Now you will get the programs and features application under that select the program which you want to remove and then hit on the uninstall/change button. I hope this will help you lot in the solving the problem.

I have faced this same issue. To solve this issue you can follow these steps. First select the start button from the desktop and then go to the control panel. Under the control panel select the add/remove program, on the add/remove program select the adobe reader 8. Finally now make click on the remove. I hope this will help you lot. You can also try another way if you have the DVD/CD of the adobe reader. Insert the adobe reader CD/DVD into the disk drive. After that on welcome screen of the adobe reader select the uninstall dialog box.

I would like to suggest you remove the registered file of adobe reader via command prompt. So that you can remove the completely and you will don’t get the adobe reader icon on the desktop. To remove this follow the below steps: First restart your system in the safe mode and after that press Ctrl + delete + Alt at the same time. By pressing this you will get the task manager, under task manager click on the process. Now on the processer select the explorer.exe and right click on the explorer.exe and select the end process. After that you may get the warning dialog box, select yes. Now go to the file on the task manger and select the file and go to the new task. Under that type cmd and press ok. Now on the command prompt type the following and press enter after every command:-
cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX"
del AcroIEHelper.dll
del AcroPDF.dll
del pdfshell.dll
exit
After that on the task manager create new task to do this file-> go to the new task and type explorer.exe and press ok button. I hope this will help you lot.
